True Grit Sydney returns to Lower Portland on the Hawkesbury River, an hour and a half north-west of the city, and 2027 is the biggest version of it yet. The riverflat terrain means water crossings and deep mud alongside the standard obstacle set: A Frame, A Very Long Carry, Traverse Ropes, Monkey Bars, The Wall, Rope Up, Pontoon Bridges, The Ramp, Tyre Wall, Inclination and The Big Climb.
Four distances run across Saturday and Sunday: 5 km (12+), the classic 10 km (16+), a 15 km (16+) that no other venue on the calendar runs, and the new 30 km Challenge, which is three laps of the course, one each of the 5 km, 10 km and 15 km routes. The 15 km Elite wave goes out at 8:30am, 15 km general from 8:40am, 10 km from 9:10am, and 5 km waves run intermittently through the day.
Registration typically opens with a 48-hour early-bird window well ahead of the event, with savings of up to $100 on full-price entry. Parking is $10 per vehicle, and spectators are free but must register.
